Statement by Cllr Mary Howard, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, in response to today’s Aer Lingus announcement
Cllr Mary Howard, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, said: “Today’s announcement by Aer Lingus that it is to close its cabin crew base in Shannon is devastating news for Shannon-based Aer Lingus staff and their families.
“It is disappointing that Aer Lingus is announcing this news at this time.
“In terms of the supply chain services provided to Aer Lingus at Shannon, the impact will be significant.
“Clare County Council and other stakeholders in the region will work with Aer Lingus to retain international connectivity into and out of Shannon and the West of Ireland.
“It is important that we save this connectivity that Aer Lingus provides and we hope it is possible to re-establish a base at Shannon into the future.
“Shannon needs Aer Lingus for tourism and business connectivity and we now have to focus on what services Aer Lingus can provide at Shannon for the businesses and communities of the West of Ireland.”
